- About Charnwood Dry StovesCharnwood have been manufacturing the modern closed combustion fireplace (woodburning stove) for a period spanning 5 decades. They are a family owned business (parent company is A J Wells & Sons Ltd) and they have built a reputation for excellence, honesty and integrity throughout Europe, North America, Oceania and South Africa. Their manufacturing ‘ethic’ is one built firmly on quality materials and expertise. Their factories are all sited on the Isle Of White where they employ local labour and utilise close to 100% British manufactured raw materials unlike other ‘British’ manufacturers who outsource their labour and materials from other parts of Europe.
This drive for excellence has won them the “Queens Award For Enterprise” and they proudly comply with ISO9001 and IS14001:2004 on their manufacturing processes. Every stove in their range meets the rigourous ‘CE’ standard (conformité européenne). See our FAQs page for details on what is required to meet this standard. They offer a 10 year warranty on the outer body of the stove (as this type of fireplace is known). Do your homework. You will struggle to find another manufacturer offering the same (we know of only two others).
Over and above this, they adhere to strong ethical values in all their dealings with their customers which makes them a pleasure to trade with! At Island Fires, we choose to mirror these attributes and are servicing a nationwide network of approved ‘Charnwood’ outlets and installers. Interesting fact: Did you know that ‘A J Wells & Son Ltd’ who own ‘Charnwood’ are also one of the UK’s premier suppliers of enamelled products with over 40 years experience in ‘vitreous enamelling’? See www.ajwells.com .
However, despite their great expertise in this industry, Charnwood choose only to offer a ‘black’ enamelled stove (the ‘SLX’ range). Why not more colours?
Vitreous enamel finishes are very sensitive to ‘over-firing’ which can cause ‘cracking’ in the finish. As a result, you will find that very few (if any) manufacturers will guarantee the finish on an enamelled stove. Charnwood pride themselves on offering a consistently high quality of finish on their colour stoves. By using their bespoke range of high quality heat resistant coatings (paint), the customer gets a consistently high quality finish that is long lasting and easy to renew or even change time and time again during the life of the stove.
